I recently heard great things about this perfect date night restaurant so I had to see for myself. Upon arrival, I noticed the quaint building was busy. Patrons were suited and booted appropriately for the cozy atmosphere. There was a long wait time unless a reservation had been made. After putting our name on the list, it wasn’t long after we were approached by a hostess to eat at the bar. We took her up on that offer due to the aroma alone that came from the kitchen.
When seated, the bar tender was very polite while introducing us to the restaurant, the menu, and their specials for the night. She also explained how the sausage and bacon on the menu is cut in-house. She explained how the vegetables on the menu were transported from farms in a 20 mile radius of the restaurant. The freshness of the produce enticed me.
I ordered the Free Range Roasted Chicken (cooked with the skin on, so it was nice and crispy!) which was served with a succotash made up of zucchini, sweet corn, baby Arugula, sweet Bell Pepper, and microgreens. My date enjoyed the Braised Pork Shoulder which was served with smoked Gouda Mac ‘n’ Cheese (made like a lasagna and oh-so gooey!) and Port wine and vinegar braised collards. I don’t even eat pork but when I tried that shoulder, I wanted to order that for myself as well. The shoulder was tender and juicy. I greatly appreciated all of the care and effort put into the meals that we enjoyed that night.
Frog Hollow had a great atmosphere, pleasant staff, lots of intimate space for patrons, and fresh food that was to die for. With food like this, you get what you pay for. Quality is hardly ever cheap, but it always seems to prove itself to be well worth it.
