AUGUSTA, GA – As a relief from the near-freezing temperatures of recent weeks, Augusta Ballet presents its annual highlight performance: the sizzling hot Dance Theatre of Harlem, straight out of New York City.

Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) was founded shortly after the assassination of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Dance Theatre of Harlem Company consists of 14 racially diverse dance artists who perform an eclectic, demanding repertoire. From treasured classics, neo-classical works by George Balanchine and resident choreographer Robert Garland, cutting-edge contemporary works, and works that use the language of ballet to celebrate African American culture, the Company brings new life to the art form of classical ballet. Company activities that carry a message of empowerment through the arts also include engaging community through education activities for audiences and young people.

As such, Augusta Ballet is presenting DTH in several free programs to enrich and inspire CSRA students, including presentations for local schoolchildren, master classes for local dancers and an athletic workshop for two high school basketball teams on Friday, January 29.

“Augusta Ballet promotes an enhanced quality of life by fostering a culture of dance appreciation and support, “said Augusta Ballet Board Vice President Jim Smith. “Through exceptional ballet performances, educational programs and creative collaborations we serve a broad and diverse audience.”

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to witness the world-class Dance Theatre of Harlem right here in Augusta – for just $25 – $65 per ticket. The performance at The Bell Auditorium on Saturday, January 30 at 7:30 p.m. will be followed by an After-Party, where attendees enjoy refreshments and mingle with the DTH dancers. The evening is sure to be an exhilarating and memorable experience for the whole family.
